Ex-Md. Gov. Ehrlich To Pen Weekly Column For 'Sun'

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Former Maryland Gov. Robert Ehrlich Jr. plans to write a weekly op-ed column for The Baltimore Sun, a newspaper with which he clashed while in office.

The Baltimore Sun reports that Ehrlich, a Republican who served as governor from 2003 to 2007, will focus on national politics.

The Sunday column will debut Jan. 29.

Ehrlich had a strained relationship with the newspaper as governor, banning state employees in 2004 from speaking with two reporters after a series of articles about a state plan to sell preserved forestland to a construction company owner. The Sun sued to lift the ban but lost in federal court.

The Sun's opinion editor, Andy Green, says he reached out to Ehrlich in seeking "a strong conservative voice." Green says Ehrlich and the newspaper have "moved on."

Ehrlich is a law firm partner and state chairman for Mitt Romney's presidential campaign.
