Winter Weather Causes Delays, Cancellations In Area

BALTIMORE (WJZ/AP) -- A weekend winter storm that hit the Northeast is causing some slippery conditions in the mid-Atlantic region.

Some snow and freezing rain fell overnight throughout the region.

A winter weather advisory was in effect for much of the area, with forecasters expecting freezing rain to convert into rain.

Officials in the nation's capital said late Friday they were preparing for the storm with more than 200 plows, and bridges and ramps were being sprayed with a beet-juice brine.

Though there were no major immediate problems reported, there were many announced delays and cancellations.

Public school officials in Harford and Prince George's counties, for instance, said all activities scheduled for Saturday had been canceled.

D.C. officials announced a delayed opening for all DMV service centers and the inspection station.
