Husband, Wife Charged With Poaching Deer

OLDTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A husband and wife from western Maryland have been charged with poaching deer.

Maryland Natural Resources police say Christopher Porter, 31, faces a variety of charges including five counts each of spotlighting with a weapon, hunting deer during closed season, hunting at night and shooting from or across a public roadway. He's also accused of reckless endangerment and contributing to the condition of a child.

Sgt. Brian Albert, a Natural Resources police spokesman, says Porter fired at as many as 13 deer and kept at least four carcasses. Police believe Porter left behind the deer he didn't kill.

His wife, 26-year-old Ina Porter, has also been charged with spotlighting, hunting at night and contributing to the condition of a child. The Porters were arrested at their Oldtown home on Saturday.
