JOPPA, Md. (WJZ) — A police officer is recovering after an overnight chase starting in Joppa and ending in Abingdon.

Early Friday morning, Trooper Jon Sawa tried to pull over a vehicle on Route 152 at Stockton Road.

Authorities say the driver, John Nussle, 22, sped off and the trooper gave chase.

At some point, the police cruiser hit a wooden fence, and shards of the fence went through the windshield.

Sawa was treated and released from Shock Trauma.

Nussle was taken into custody after crashing in Abingdon and charged with driving under the influence and other charges.
