Anne Arundel Co. Police Search For Suspect In Sexual Assault

SEVERN, Md. (WJZ) -- The search for a suspect who sexually assaulted a woman at an Anne Arundel County strip mall is heating up.

Gigi Barnett has more.

Anne Arundel County Police are searching for the man they say walked up to a woman at a strip mall in Severn, sexually assaulted her and ran away. It happened at the Severn Square Shopping Center located in the 2600-block of Annapolis Road.

"Officers did a canvass of the area. They were unable to locate the suspect and the investigation was at that point turned over to our criminal investigation unit," said Anne Arundel County police spokesman Justin Mulcahy.

Now detectives are looking for witnesses, too. The suspect was wearing a dark-colored jacket, jeans and a gauge-style earring that night, but detectives say he has one tell-tale feature that tipsters will notice right away.

"A scar on the right side of his face down his cheek," Mulcahy said.

As police search for the suspect, shoppers are on the lookout, too.

"I have daughters, and that's not good. It's concerning, very concerning," said shopper Melanie Garrett.

If you have any information on this case, Anne Arundel County police say call their detectives at 410-222-3416.
