Blaze Damages Grocery Store
SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County fire officials say a blaze that broke out in the aisle of a Silver Spring grocery store has caused significant damage.
Fire department spokesman Capt. Oscar Garcia says the fire occurred at the store in the 2000-block of Cherry Hill Road about 8 p.m. Tuesday. Garcia says the store's sprinkler system helped contain the fire until firefighters arrived.
Authorities evacuated the grocery store and a nearby Kohl's department store as a precaution. No injuries were reported.
The grocery store will remain closed while officials evaluate the damage and determine whether food can be handled safely in the store.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
