Panel Names Md. Building After Former Official
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The Board of Public Works has decided to rename a state building after Maryland's longest-serving secretary of state.
The board on Wednesday approved renaming the Jeffrey Building in honor of Fred Wineland, a former member of the Maryland House of Delegates and state Senate.
Wineland attended the board meeting in Annapolis to express his gratitude. Former Gov. Harry Hughes also attended, saying the honor was very well deserved.
The building includes staff offices for Gov. Martin O'Malley, including the Office of Homeland Security, the appointments office and the secretary of state's office.
