Loyola Beats Iona 87-81

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Dylon Cormier and Erik Etherly scored 22 points a piece to pace Loyola (Md.) in an 87-81 win over Iona on Friday night, a victory that pushed the Greyhounds past the Gaels for the top spot in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Justin Drummond added 17 points and Robert Olson 13 for the Greyhounds (19-5, 12-2), who have won seven straight games on their run to the lone spot atop the conference. They avenged a loss at Iona on Jan. 15.

The Greyhounds opened the game on a 19-10 run and put together an 18-6 run at one juncture of the first half to take a 17-point lead into the locker room. They held on despite being outscored 51-40 by the Gaels in the second half.

Michael Glover also scored 22 points to lead Iona (19-6, 11-3), which had its four-game winning streak snapped.
