Rockville Teacher Charged With Sexual Abuse Of 16-Year-Old Student

ROCKVILLE, Md. (WJZ)—A Pennsylvania woman is charged with having sex with a student at the Maryland school where she taught.

Mary Bubala has more on the charges she's facing.

Police say the abuse of the 16-year-old student lasted from the fall of 2010 through just last month.

The Montrose Christian School in Rockville is known to a lot of people as the alma mater of NBA superstar Kevin Durant. But now the school is making news thanks to the actions of one of its teachers.

Kindergarten teacher Ashley Campbell, 27, is now being charged with having a sexual relationship for more than a year with a Montrose student who was just 16 when their relationship began.

"The teacher did confess to the relationship," said a Montgomery County police spokesperson.

Police say Campbell and the student had sex numerous times in a Montgomery County park and in her vehicle.

Police say school officials notified them of the relationship after the school received an anonymous tip last Friday.

"It's disgusting," said one parent.

"I talked to her once," said another parent. "She's a nice person. I'm just shocked."

The school said in a statement that Campbell no longer works there and that none of the incidents took place on campus.

Campbell is charged with two counts each of sexual abuse of a minor and a fourth-degree sex offense.
