Md. Del. Hogan Undecided On Gay Marriage Vote

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A Republican member of Maryland's State House who has been mentioned as a possible supporter of a bill to legalize gay marriage says he's unsure if he will support it.

Republican Delegate Patrick Hogan represents an increasingly Democratic district in Frederick and had been seen as a potential supporter of same-sex unions.

Gov. Martin O'Malley said Monday that he still needs the support of "a couple" House delegates and that Republican votes could be critical to passing the bill.

Hogan said Tuesday that he would be more comfortable with a bill to create civil unions for gay couples but understands there is not much support for such a proposal.

House Judiciary Committee chairman Joseph Vallario said a vote to move the bill to the full chamber could come Tuesday.
