Arena Stage Plans New Season With 'My Fair Lady'

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Arena Stage is announcing plans to feature Janis Joplin's music, a reinterpretation of "My Fair Lady" and the Washington premiere of the Broadway play "The Mountaintop" in its 2012-2013 season.

It opens in September with "One Night with Janis Joplin" and her musical influences.

A reinterpretation of Lerner and Loewe's "My Fair Lady" follows. Arena's Artistic Director Molly Smith brings her production to Washington after its premiere in Canada.

Arena also hosts two world premieres. "Pullman Porter Blues," a co-production with Seattle Repertory Theatre, is set on a 1937 train from Chicago to New Orleans. Arena also commissioned "Mary T. & Lizzy K." to explore the friendship between Mary Todd Lincoln and freed slave Elizabeth Keckly.

"The Mountaintop," a reimagining of Martin Luther King Jr.'s last night, arrives in 2013.
