Make the count now 25 players who have defected from Randy Edsall’s program since he took over a year ago. The latest is former ACC Freshman of the Year Danny O’Brien.

I am by no means ready to give up on Edsall. He deserves a chance to see what he can do with his players. That said, this doesn’t look good. All these players, and he had to fire both his coordinators….and the team went 2-10. It sure looks like they blew it with O’Brien, when they forced him to adapt to a system that wasn’t making use of his skill set. Then, they bench him. It’s no surprise he decided to leave. They’ve also lost both their starting tackles from last year. Now, the team went 2-10, so maybe that’s not a big deal.

I don’t like the fact that Edsall is barring his players from transferring to Vanderbilt because James Franklin coaches there. You know what? Danny O’Brien gave you his best for 3 years. If this young man thinks he could be happier playing for Franklin, who recruited and coached him at Maryland, then Randy Edsall should be big enough to let him go and enjoy the rest of his college experience.

I do think that it’s a problem that all these players are leaving, however I also understand that he needs time to recruit his own players and put his own plan into motion. A lot of these players were recruited by the former head coach.
