Anne Arundel Deadlocked On Replacement For Jones

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The Anne Arundel County Council is deadlocked over a vote to appoint a replacement to a seat vacated by a convicted councilman.

The Baltimore Sun reports the council remained tied on two candidates during more than 100 rounds of votes Thursday. The candidates are former state Sen. Michael J. Wagner of Glen Burnie and Peter Smith, a Marine reservist from Severn.

Ten candidates applied for the seat to replace Daryl D. Jones, who is serving five months in federal prison for failing to file his taxes. All candidates gave opening statements and were questioned on various topics during the more than four-hour meeting.

The council plans to resume voting on Tuesday.
