Howard Edges Maryland-Eastern Shore 53-51

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Glen Andrews was the lone player in double figures for Howard, scoring 10 points, and the Bison held off Maryland-Eastern Shore 53-51 on Monday night despite going scoreless in the final 2:17 of the game.

A three-point play by Calvin Thompson put Howard (9-19, 6-9 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) up 53-47 with just over two minutes left, but that would be the last bucket for the Bison. The Hawks rallied, pulling it to the final margin on Ishaq Pitt's layup with 1:23 remaining.

Neither team got a shot off the rest of the way, though, as both committed a turnover in the game's final minute.

The Hawks edged the Bison from the floor, shooting 33.3 percent (18 of 54) to 32.1 percent (18 of 56), but Howard's bench outscored theirs 38-11.

Ronald Spencer had 14 points to pace UMES (6-20, 3-10) and Hillary Hale scored 11.
