26-Year-Old Lands His Dream Job Becoming The New Voice Of The Orioles
BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- When the boys of summer arrive at Camden Yards, there will be a new voice welcoming the team and fans to the ballpark.
Jessica Kartalija introduces us to the new "Voice of the Orioles."
"We've got him here on the MLB man cave..."
From a spoof with the players to becoming the voice of the team.
"And now for your Baltimore Orioles, managed by Buck Showalter. Batting first, No. 1: Brian Roberts!"
Ryan Wagner, 26, has landed his dream job.
"It left me speechless, which I think is a bit ironic for this position," Wagner said.
It's a part-time job with a major league commitment. Wagner will voice all 81 home games at Camden Yards.
Six hundred and seventy applicants submitted a demo reel. The Orioles narrowed it down to 25, then to eight, and finally, to just one.
"It was unbelievably difficult and stressful," Wagner said. "Don't mess up, don't stumble over your words. I'm going to have a lot of family and friends here and that's going to be great, knowing they will be listening to me."
Wagner replaces Dave McGowan who won an audition 14 years ago.
"It's something I'll tell my kids and grandkids about, hopefully. And I can't wait. It's going to be great," Wagner said.
Wagner has the best seat in the house for every home game at Camden Yards. He can't wait for his first day on April 6.
Walker also has a great singing voice. He was recently on tour with the "Wizard of Oz" and says if they ever need someone to sing the Star-Spangled Banner, he's their man.
