Arundel Mills Casino Gets New Restaurant

ARUNDEL MILLS, Md. (WJZ) — This week, the final structural beam was set into place at the new slots casino being built at Arundel Mills.

Now, as Mike Schuh reports, a new destination restaurant was announced, bringing with it more traffic.

The Baltimore institution, The Prime Rib, unveiled what their newest restaurant will look like once the Maryland Live! Casino at Arundel Mills is completed.

“Well, we really have something for everyone, have a broad audience for the casino entertainment complex and this is a world-class facility,” said Joe Weinberg, The Cordish Companies.

Also here, a Bobby Flay burger restaurant, The Cheesecake Factory and Phillips Seafood.

“Well, we have a great mix of national brands and Maryland companies so we feel we have the best of all worlds,” Weinberg said.

Great restaurants may be great for this casino but there are still plenty of people who oppose the project.

“I’m an avid gambler but the traffic and congestion here, I voted against it,” said one opponent.

“All these people who work around the mall and don’t have to live around it and live with it, you just don’t understand what we’re going through,” said another.

There’s no doubt that traffic will now increase but the developer has long held that the traffic plan is adequate and the area around the mall is designed to handle the gambling and dining guests who come to the casino. The project will mean 1,500 jobs.

The casino will open this summer with it being fully completed by October.

  • Oh, yes I did say that

Hope it’s not taken over by the city rats but I don’t think the Lightrail goes out that far yet so it should be good for the first 6 months or so.

    • Already is

already is, theres buses going right there from the light rail in glen burnie. I haven’t been to AM in 10 years and don’t plan on gong anytime soon, its just as bad as towson town

You may not like to hear it! Poor people spend every dime they get and thats why we have public transportation.Working folks have to keep a budget and buy health care and insurance, save for private schools etc.

    • ballsohardclub

WRONG!….The transportation fund that is supposed to use the gas tax is constantly raided to subsidze the MTA.

      • outkasts

MTA belongs to federal government and run by the state of maryland. Its federal money that pay for bus, trains, etc. The state steals money from the MTA!!!!!!!

Can you bet the ponies via simulcast at the Casino? Prime RIB! YUM

  • blah

This is all going to be a COMPLETE mess! Crime, traffic, no parking, etc is going to happen in this area. It really stinks because I use to enjoy going to Arundel Mills Mall and bargain shopping. Who puts a casino in a parking lot???

  • Ellen

This is the next day since this news was put in here…. I’m lookin’ at a total of 8, count ’em Eight comments……. that’s an ominous silence.

  • Gael O

Arundal Mills always sucked for parking. The lot layout is horrid, not that the oversized nightmare of a mall has a layout any better.

The last thing we need in this area is another mall. I wish they’d bulldozed the stupid thing and put up a *real* casino there. Slots are boring, bring on the Texas Hold ‘Em.

Probably not. It’s just WJZ deleting any positive post.

Traffic around that mall is already a cluster f**k. I was looking forward to the casino coming, but not sure dealing with the congestion will be worth it.

  • The Grump

Table games ? No ? Free alcoholic drinks for players ? No ?

Sorry O’Malley – the real casinos are still in New Jersey. MD LIVE may get the instant lotto ticket scratchers, but I like games with better odds. Slots are for suckers – and lotto ticket scratchers.

  • Mike

I will stick with Charlestown. A lot safer less likely to be murdered in the parking lot.

  • Russ

Oh, the naysayers…Just wait until they step through those front doors of this palace. Can’t wait!
