Police ID Intruder They Say Shot Homeowner

TOWSON, Md. (WJZ) — A west Towson homeowner was shot while catching a burglar in the act. He’s still in the hospital and the suspect is facing charges but that’s not comforting neighbors.

Andrea Fujii has more.

The suspect is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center without bail. But even though he’s behind bars, neighbors say they’re still on edge.

In a quiet community less than half a mile from downtown Towson, neighbors are shocked that someone here was shot.

“We had never heard of anything that violent,” said one.

“It’s a very family-oriented neighborhood, very safe. That’s why I think a lot of families come here,” said another.

Police say early Sunday morning, Bradford Steven Holup, 49, of Baltimore broke into a home on Allegheny Avenue when the homeowner, a 65-year-old man, came home to find him. Police say Holup shot him in the back of the neck, then drove off. A couple blocks away, an officer spotted Holup and pulled him over.

Police say he was dressed in camouflage from head to toe, and inside his vehicle, they found some of the victim’s belongings.

“We’re still not sure what other property may have been taken or what this burglar was looking far. That’s all still part of the investigation,” said Elise Armacost, Baltimore County Police.

Even with Holup behind bars, neighbor Paula Lamp is still worried that crime here is escalating.

“So it seems that just recently, things have started to pick up in this neighborhood so it’s kind of concerning,” Lackamp said.

And she says this isn’t the first time the victim’s house has been burglarized, but there are only so many precautions residents can take.

“You can only do alarms and a dog and just trying to be safe,” Lackamp said.

Holup is now facing attempted murder, assault and burglary charges. WJZ has learned he has a violent past. He’s already on parole for attempted murder, rape and burglary.

Police are still investigating, but don’t believe the victim was targeted. He is expected to make a full recovery.

A check of the Judiciary Case Search shows this guy has 22 prior charges against him (23 including this case). He’s been in jail before, and has been convicted of burglarly before. How many times does someone have to break the law before they are locked up for good? Clearly he is a habitual criminal and will continue to be a threat to others for the rest of his life.

Took a look myself and was going to post that everyone should check judiciary case search. Amazing how many times I see the repeat offenders that should not be walking on the streets.

watch the victim will be sued by this guy, for pain and suffering because he would not have shot the home owner if he had stayed away, so it is the victims fault that the criminal is now a victim of crime, same principal is if a crook injuries himself on your property like breaks a leg by falling, your responsible because it happened on your property don’t matter if he wasa supposed to be there or not, have seen this before in maryland where crooks get paid for doing crime.

Rest assured good people of Maryland. Governor O’malley will make sure you are protected by introducing stronger weapon regulations, he will propose legislation adding a 9% sales tax to all ammunition.

  7. ANNOYED AT THE IGNORANCE says:

I do not think Crime has a color. it happens in all neighborhoods, and all races have been victims as well as had criminals. it is about the person, the up bringing, and the ignorance, people think they can just take they don’t have to work for it, and they feel they have the power to shoot, stab, rape, to take your security, safety, and sanity away from you. it is not a specific race so I really wish everyone would get past that, move on, get over it! there are good people and bad people but we are all HUMANS! look past color and grow the hell up! the bigger picture is that there are criminals out there that this wonderful judicial system keeps letting out! we need to find away to make sure this does not keep happening, election year make a statement!
