This is one of the key goals for the Ravens this off-season. Don’t underestimate the importance of this.
Lardarius Webb is a restricted free agent. That means the Ravens can get him for under $3 million this year. However, next year, he would be an unrestricted free agent. It would be very difficult for the Ravens to keep him. Franchising him would be a fortune, and tough to do with Jimmy Smith getting first round money. That means the Ravens need to get a deal done now, and that will be pricey.
Webb is in the driver’s seat. He can get paid well this year, and then potentially get rich next year. The risk is, just look at Foxworth, he could get hurt and lose out on big money. He could get set for life money from the Ravens right now, the question is how high are they willing and able to go (considering the cap)?
I’d make a big pitch on Webb, especially with the uncertainty around Ed Reed after this year. Webb is a guy that could probably play safety too.
