Organizers Won't Host Md. Summer Boat Party

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Organizers of the popular and rowdy Bumper Bash boat gathering on the Magothy River say they won't host the event this year.

The Baltimore Sun reports Friday that organizers posted a message on the event's Facebook page saying there is nothing wrong with boaters gathering July 28 at the event site, but they won't be hosting the event.

Maryland Natural Resources Police say more than 1,000 boats have taken part in the event the past two years and they are supporting a bill to regulate large boat gatherings.

Under the proposed legislation, organizers would be required to get permits weeks in advance and could have to provide security.

Natural Resources Police say large boat gatherings such as the Bumper Bash have become a drain on the department's resources.
