Burke Out As Men's Hoops Coach At Mount St. Mary's

EMMITSBURG, Md. (AP) -- Mount St. Mary's University says it has accepted the resignation of men's basketball coach Robert Burke.

The Catholic school in Emmitsburg announced Burke's departure Monday, about 2 1/2 weeks after he was placed on paid administrative leave at his own request.

Burke came to the Mount in May 2010. He had an overall record of 17-40.

The Mountaineers finished this season 8-21 overall and 6-12 in the Northeast Conference.

Athletics Director Lynne Robinson says the school is focusing on hiring the best coach to lead its basketball program.

Assistant Coach Matt Henry was named acting head coach Feb. 15.

He guided the Mountaineers to a 2-2 record in the team's final four regular season games.
