House Speaker Honored With First Citizen Award

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller and House Speaker Michael Busch are known for not always seeing eye-to-eye.

The two were very cordial, however, as the speaker was presented with the First Citizen Award in the Maryland Senate on Wednesday for the 20th anniversary of the award.

Miller, D-Calvert, thanked the Senate for "acknowledging the brilliance of this leader."

Busch, who has been speaker since 2003, said it's an award he treasures.

Busch, D-Anne Arundel, is the longest-serving speaker of the House of Delegates. Miller, who has been the Senate president since 1987, has held the position longer than anyone in state history.
