Md.'s Catoctin Zoo Plans Educational Center

THURMONT, Md. (AP) -- The Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo near Thurmont says it's planning an expansion.

Executive Director Richard Hahn says the deal hinges on a vote Thursday by the Frederick County Commissioners on a proposed zoning change for nearly 25 acres the zoo wants to acquire.

He says the parcel just north of the zoo would be used for an educational center and possibly a dinosaur exhibit.

If all goes as planned, Hahn says the expansion could be finished next year.

The zoo houses more than 1,000 animals on 65 acres along U.S. 15.
