Wounded Soldiers Compete For Warrior Games Spots

FORT MEADE, Md. (AP) -- Wounded and ill soldiers and Army veterans from across the country will train and compete for spots on the Army's Warrior Games team.

About 70 soldiers and veterans will gather at Fort Meade through Monday in hopes of being one of 50 athletes representing the Army in the Warrior Games starting next month in Colorado. Army team members will be announced later this month.

During the games, athletes from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Special Operations compete in archery, cycling, wheelchair basketball, shooting, swimming, track and field, and sitting volleyball. Warrior Games are hosted by the U.S. Olympic Committee and supported by the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, USO, Fisher House Foundation and the Bob Woodruff Foundation.
