Program Offers Free Cab Rides On St. Patrick's Day

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A nonprofit organization is offering free cab rides to St. Patrick's Day revelers in the Washington area to help curb drunken driving.

The Washington Regional Alcohol Program says its SoberRide service will be available to residents in Washington and the counties of Montgomery, Prince George's, Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William and eastern Loudoun. The rides will be offered from 6 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday.

Residents can call 1-800-200-TAXI for a free ride up to a $30 fare.

The organization says it has offered more than 54,870 free rides since 1993.
