HANOVER, Md. (AP) — The first set of slot machines has arrived at the nearly completed casino at Arundel Mills mall.
Workers on Wednesday unloaded four trucks with 100 slot machines inside Maryland Live! Casino, which will be the state’s largest when it opens in June.
The state is still waiting still waiting for the big payout from legalized slot machines. The General Assembly voted in 2007 to let voters decide whether to allow up to 15,000 slot machines at five casinos in the state. Supporters at the time touted it as a way to bring in millions for education and avoid painful cuts and tax increases.
Hollywood Casino Perryville and the Casino at Ocean Downs near Ocean City — the state’s two operating casinos — have generated less revenue than expected.
