Budget Work To Occupy House Much Of The Week

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A package of budget measures will be keeping the Maryland House of Delegates busy this week.

The House Ways and Means Committee is scheduled to consider a bill to raise income taxes on most Maryland taxpayers on Monday afternoon. The measure already has passed the state Senate, and the House is expected to consider some changes.

The House Appropriations Committee will be working on a budget bill Monday that includes a controversial split of teacher pension costs with counties.

The two House committees approved a bill on Friday night to close loopholes that counties have been using to avoid spending at least the same amount of money on a per-pupil basis for schools as the previous year.
