Mount Rainier Officer Sentenced To 10 Years In Prison

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- A Mount Rainier police officer who pleaded guilty to attempted murder, sex offense and gun charges in connection with an incident at his home has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

WJLA-TV reports Gene Gillette was sentenced Wednesday by a judge in Prince George's County.

Prosecutors said Gillette lured a 20-year-old man to his Capitol Heights home in July 2011 and made sexual advances toward him. When the man tried to flee in Gillette's truck, Gillette fired shots at him.

Gillette pleaded guilty last year to attempted murder, attempted sex offense and use of a handgun in the incident.
