Drivers Honk Horns At Statehouse To Protest Taxes
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Some Maryland residents are honking out in protest of tax proposals.
About 10 people drove around the circular road around the Maryland State House on Thursday. They honked their horns repeatedly as lawmakers in the House of Delegates were debating the state budget.
Carl Garrett, of Millersville, was pulled over by a Department of General Services police officer. He received a $60 ticket for using his horn in a non-emergency situation.
Garrett says Maryland lawmakers should be balancing the budget with the money the state has, instead of raising taxes.
Some drivers taped signs to their vehicles. One read "Taxed Enough Already."
Lawmakers are considering a variety of taxes this year, including an increase in income taxes.
