Gaithersburg Man Charged With Cigarette Smuggling

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Frederick City Police say they have charged a Gaithersburg man after a traffic stop led to their
discovery of marijuana and untaxed cigarettes.

The Frederick News-Post reports that officers also found that Abdul Osman, 28, was driving on a suspended license when they stopped him for a broken tail light Wednesday evening in the 1000-block of West Patrick Street.

They say their investigation uncovered a small amount of marijuana and 50 cartons of cigarettes with Virginia tax stamps.

Maryland residents may not bring more than two packs of untaxed cigarettes into the state. Nonresidents are limited to one carton.

Osman was being held at the Frederick County jail in lieu of $12,500 bail. He is charged with driving while suspended;
possession of marijuana and paraphernalia; and transporting untaxed cigarettes.
