BALTIMORE (AP) — Maryland will soon be getting a new 667 area code.
The Public Service Commission has said that the new code is needed because the remaining numbers in the 410 and 443 area codes were expected to be exhausted by early this year. The 667 area code will be launched on Saturday.
Customers in central Maryland and the Eastern Shore requesting a new phone number may get the new area code. Customers with existing 410 and 443 telephone numbers will not be affected.
The new area code is expected to create an additional 8 million numbers.
