Son Gets 5-Year Term For Drugs Meant For Md. Inmate Dad

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A Pikesville man is joining his father as a Maryland state prison inmate after trying to bring him drugs in an apparent bid for love.

The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports Edward Dorsey Jr., 20, was sentenced Thursday in Hagerstown to five years in prison with another 10 years suspended.

Dorsey pleaded guilty to charges stemming from his arrest in June at the Roxbury Correctional Institute near Hagerstown.

Authorities say Dorsey had packets of morphine and other drugs hidden in his boxer shorts when he went to visit his inmate father in June. Edward Dorsey Sr. is serving time for first-degree murder.

A family friend told the court the young man was seeking his father's love.

His attorney says Dorsey is a good kid with no other criminal record.
