Orioles Bury Division II Florida Southern 14-1

SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) -- Having completed the Grapefruit League portion of their spring schedule, the Baltimore Orioles got in a workout Monday night by defeating Division II Florida Southern 14-1 in a game that basically amounted to a controlled scrimmage.

The Orioles sent nine batters to the plate and scored seven runs in the first inning before umpires halted play with no outs.

J.J. Hardy and Chris Davis belted three-run homers and Matt Wieters had an RBI single.

Closer Jim Johnson started for Baltimore and retired the side in order with two strikeouts. Left-hander Troy Patton followed with two innings of one-hit ball.

The Orioles didn't bat in the third, and Nolan Reimold homered in a three-run fourth.

Florida Southern scored its lone run in the ninth off Pat Neshek.
