Md. University System Names Hagerstown Chief

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The University System of Maryland is naming a new executive director for its Hagerstown center.

The center said Wednesday that Mark Halsey will assume the office May 21.

Halsey is currently director of finance and administration for distance learning at Virginia Tech.

He succeeds David Warner, who became vice president for academic affairs at Hagerstown Community College in July.

The university system says Halsey will ensure that the center's programs meet the needs of students. His other duties include maintaining and expanding the center's relations with area community colleges.

The center opened in downtown Hagerstown in 2005.
