Ryan Wagner Excited To Announce His First Orioles Game On Friday

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- Celebrating two decades in Baltimore City, Camden Yards is undergoing some big changes.

Jessica Kartalija introduces us to another new addition at the ballpark: the Orioles' new announcer.

The new announcer is a pretty young guy who says he has big shoes to fill as he prepares to announce his first game on Friday.

He tells WJZ his friends and family will be in the stands cheering him on Friday.

"Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, welcome to Oriole Park at Camden Yards."

That was the audition reel that earned Ryan Wagner the job of a lifetime. The 26-year-old says the new gig is a dream come true.

"I am well aware of the history of the game and the men and women who have come before me in jobs like this, and I am excited to be a part of that," Wagner said.

Wagner was one of 670 applicants vying for a position Dave McGowan's held for 14 years.

"I am going to enjoy being the blend of being a younger guy and communicate with the fans on Twitter and Facebook and the social media outlets but also providing the classic voice this stadium commands," he said. "If I can find that balance, I think I will have done my job."

The new position comes as Camden Yards celebrates two decades in Baltimore City.

The ballpark is undergoing renovations.

"With anything great like this, you need to update it and make sure its fresh," Wagner said. "Everything they are doing, it's really amazing and it doesn't lose any of the charm of this ballpark and it still has a classic feel but I think it will have updates the fans will love."

WJZ has complete coverage of the match-up between the Baltimore Orioles and Minnesota Twins starting at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 6.
