Opening Day At Oriole Park At Camden Yards Welcomes A Sold-Out Crowd

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- The Orioles opened up the season with a win against the Twins.

And you could really hear the crowd roar as the players were announced including Nick Markakis, the Orioles' right fielder.

Jessica Kartalija has reaction from fans on Camden Yards' new additions.

It's the 20th year Camden Yards has been in the middle of Baltimore City. Fans had a wonderful time celebrating the Orioles' Opening Day.

Camden Yards came alive Friday. The Boys of Summer are back in Baltimore playing in front of a sold-out crowd.

"It's always wonderful when you have 45,000 people that are loving it as much as you hope they would," Janet Marie Smith, Orioles vice president, said. "So absolutely, the Orioles couldn't be happier with the fan response."

"Opening Day is a special feeling in Baltimore," an Orioles fan said. "So much to be proud of. We have a great ballclub despite what people say, a great ballpark, great improvements, and you can't beat the Gino Giant, especially with the crab cake."

Before the O's even threw a pitch, a little boy stole the show.

"Six-year-old Connor Schoenwetter from Cockeysville, Md!" the Orioles' announced.

Schoenwetter was randomly selected from the audience as the team's tenth man.

There's a new bar in center field.

"It's just awesome because there's nothing in front of you. The background's great, there's a bar, there's couches. It's nothing like sitting in the small seat," said another fan.

The only thing better than her seat are the seats in center field. They're first-come-first-serve as soon as the national anthem is over.

A new flag court has a better view of the game and a new picnic area is designed to enhance the fan experience.

Kartalija: "Are you guys die-hard fans?"
Orioles Fan: "Oh yeah! We haven't had a winning season in 15 years. If you're a fan, you're a fan. Don't be one of those fans that go, 'Oh, we're fans if they're winning.' No, no, no. You've gotta be a fan no matter what."

The Orioles will take on the Twins again on Saturday and Sunday at 7:05 p.m. and 1:35 p.m. respectively.
