Inmate Dies In Apparent Suicide In Western Md.

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The Washington County Sheriff's Office says a female inmate is dead after apparently hanging herself in a jail bathroom.

The agency said Wednesday that deputies found Kristy Jenkins, 25, of Hancock hanging by a sheet from a partition.

She was revived but pronounced dead later at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.

The agency says Jenkins was alive and well 30 minutes earlier, when deputies made their rounds.

Authorities say her other cellmates were sleeping and unaware of the suicide attempt.

Jenkins had been jailed Monday for an alleged probation violation stemming from a theft last year. She was awaiting trial on other theft charges for an incident last week.
