Maryland Issues Drought Watch For Eastern Counties

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Maryland's Department of the Environment is encouraging residents on most of the Eastern Shore to conserve water because of a lack of rainfall in recent months.

The department issued a drought watch on Friday for all of the Eastern Shore except for Cecil County. MDE says rainfall in the
region for the first three months of the year has been about 60 percent of normal. During a drought watch, the department says it increases monitoring of water supplies as well as encouraging conservation.

MDE says water conditions are normal in the rest of the state.
