FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — A team of Japanese student drummers headlines a cherry blossom event in Frederick’s Baker Park.

The Yamakiya Taiko Club from Fukushima, Japan, performed Sunday afternoon.

The 13 students range in age from 12 to 20. They are from the area affected by high radiation levels from the failed Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant.

The team is also scheduled to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington Monday.

The Frederick event includes a ceremonial tree planting to mark the 100th anniversary of Japan’s gift of cherry blossom trees to the nation’s capital.
