Police Impersonator Robs Driver

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County police say a man posing as a police officer pulled over a driver and took her purse and cell phone.

It happened about 11:45 a.m. Wednesday in Silver Spring. A woman said she was driving on Avenel Road when the driver of a vehicle following her sounded the horn and motioned for her to pull over.

The man pulled next to her and said he was the police. The victim then pulled over.

The impersonator demanded her license and registration, told her to get out of the car and he went through her vehicle. He took her purse and cell phone and drove away in his own car.

The woman was not hurt.
