Orioles Recall LHP Phillips, Option RHP Berken
BALTIMORE (AP) -- The Baltimore Orioles have recalled Zach Phillips from Triple-A Norfolk to fortify a bullpen still trying to recover from Sunday's 17-inning game in Boston.
The move gives the Orioles a second left-handed reliever with Troy Patton. Phillips had a 4.15 ERA and three saves in 13 innings at Norfolk.
Phillips came to Baltimore from Texas last July and had a 1.13 ERA in 10 appearances.
"He pitched well in September and was probably our last cut of the spring," manager Buck Showalter said.
Baltimore optioned right-hander Jason Berken to Norfolk. Berken was recalled Monday and yielded seven runs, two earned, and six hits in the ninth inning of a 14-3 loss to Texas.
The Orioles have a thin bullpen after using seven relievers and position player Chris Davis on Sunday.
