Orioles Bring Up INF Tolleson, Option LHP Phillips

BALTIMORE (AP) -- The Baltimore Orioles have purchased the contract of infielder Steve Tolleson from Triple-A Norfolk and optioned pitcher Zach Phillips to the same minor league club.

Tolleson batted .265 with one homer and 11 RBIs in 26 games with the Tides. His only major league experience was in 2010, when he played in 25 games with Oakland.

"We need the depth in the infield," manager Buck Showalter said. "He can play left field, right field, short, third,
second."

Phillips was recalled from Norfolk on Tuesday and allowed two runs in two-thirds of an inning of a 10-3 loss to Texas. It was his first appearance of the season.

To make room for Tolleson on the 40-man roster, the Orioles transferred catcher Taylor Teagarden (back) from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL.
