WEATHER BLOG: Showers & T-Storms Expected This Week

Another beautiful day here in Baltimore, while signs of Tropical Storm Alberto move up the coast.

Alberto is still a tropical storm sitting off the Georgia coastline with winds of 45 mph. Alberto is drifting off to the southwest at 6 mph, basically meandering around offshore. It will stay down there for the next 24 hours, before being picked up by the approaching front. When that happens, it will make a turn off to the northeast and start to pick up speed - moving away from the U.S. and farther out to sea.

For us, we are not getting a direct impact from Alberto, rather an indirect impact from the combination of Alberto and the approaching front (right now over the Midwest). Clouds and even some showers and thunderstorms are moving onshore from the ocean. They arrived at the beaches earlier Sunday with a few showers moving farther northwest into the rest of the Eastern Shore. We will see that trend continue Sunday night with more clouds and even some showers arriving in Baltimore later.

With us wedged between the front and Alberto Monday and Tuesday, we will see rounds of showers and even some thunderstorms. When Alberto passes south of Ocean City late Tuesday/early Wednesday, the weather pattern will start to move again. However, there will still be some thunderstorms and showers lingering into Wednesday. And yes, this is a HUGE day for us in the First Warning Weather Center. It's our annual Weather Field Trip Day at Camden Yards. We will keep you posted on the forecast, so make sure you check back in.

Another low will form over the water later this week. That low will eventually make its way up the coast after we clear the path from this first round of front/tropical storm. The National Hurricane Center will be watching this closely, and we will let you know if it becomes an organized tropical system. Regardless, it will likely give us the chance for a few thunderstorms on Thursday.
