Contemporary Museum In Md. Suspending Operations

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A museum that has presented a broad range of art for more than two decades in Baltimore is suspending its operations at the end of the month.

The Baltimore Sun reports that the trustees of the Contemporary Museum made the decision Monday, and that plans to secure a new home for the museum have been scrapped.

Board member Barbara Portnoy Levine says the museum is not getting the fundraising and participation commitments that it needs. But she said the museum, which has had an annual budget of about $400,000, is not in debt.

The museum moved into a building on West Centre Street in 1999.

It moved out last year after the owner needed the space back, and set up a temporary office on St. Paul Street.
