County Official Sets Sights On Md. Governor's Office

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The Republican president of the Frederick County Commissioners says he has formed a fundraising organization for a likely gubernatorial bid.

Blaine Young said Saturday he has filed with the Maryland State Board of Elections to create a group called Blaine Young for Maryland.

The fiscal and social conservative says he aims to secure commitments of at least $300,000 in campaign contributions by late September.

Young is a onetime Democrat and former Frederick city alderman.

He dropped out of elective politics in 2001 after acknowledging he hired women from a call-girl service to dance at a party.

He was appointed a county commissioner in 2010 and won re-election later that year.

Young owns a mobile billboard business and part of a taxicab company. He also hosts a local radio talk show.
