HANOVER, Md. (WJZ) — It’s just about a week until the grand opening of a new casino. Maryland Live! at Arundel Mills will be one of the largest in the region.
Adam May got a sneak peek of the casino Tuesday afternoon.
It looks a lot like a Vegas casino and for now, it will be the only casino in the Baltimore metro area.
The lights are flashing and the machines are dinging at the new Maryland Live! Casino at Arundel Mills.
“We’re ready,” said managing partner Joe Weinberg.
Weinberg gave WJZ and other media a tour of what’s being billed as one of the largest gaming, retail and entertainment destinations in the country.
“We’ll not only be the top taxpayer in Maryland but one of the top taxpayers in the United States,” Weinberg said.
Right now, the casino has 3,200 machines. They start at one penny and then there’s high rollers. There’s a $5 machine, too. Adam won $10.
The casino also has dozens of electronic table games, like roulette. Instead of using chips, you use your fingers to select the number you hope will win.
Like most casinos, there’s already a large buffet and the food is already cooking as chefs practice recipes. Rudy Volpe is the executive chef.
“I’m proud of everything we’re serving here,” Volpe said.
A handful of other upscale restaurants will also open next week, as well as cocktail bars where you can take a break from playing or toast to your big win.
The casino will have 1,500 employees. The grand opening is June 6 at 10 p.m.
