Win $1,500 In Potomac Snakehead Fishing Tournament
WASHINGTON (AP) — Organizers of this year’s Potomac Snakehead Tournament say anglers can catch all the snakeheads they want, help rid the river of an invasive species and maybe win $1,500.
Teams of up to six can fish anywhere along the river in the two-day tournament this weekend. The check-in and weigh-in is at Smallwood State Park in Charles County. Teams can fish by boat or from the shore and use either rod and reel or bowfish. Local chefs will also cook and serve snakehead following Sunday’s weigh-in.
The Asian native was illegally introduced into the Potomac and has also been found in the Rhode and Nanticoke Rivers. The fish are highly valued in Asia, but are a voracious predator that can harm native fish populations.
