FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — Frederick County officials say some money earmarked for school technology improvements may be spent on a more urgent need: more toilets.

The Frederick News-Post reports that Urbana Elementary School has 10 portable classrooms that lack bathrooms.

Parent Becca Clark says some classes routinely take 15-minute breaks so the kids can file into the school building to use the restrooms.

On Thursday, the Frederick County Commissioners approved a school board plan to rent a portable bathroom, using $40,000 earmarked for technology upgrades. The trailer would add up to eight toilets.

County Commissioner Billy Shreve says he was shocked when he heard about the bathroom shortage.

School board President Angie Fish says the overcrowded school is scheduled for an expansion, but not for more four years.
