WASHINGTON (AP) — Mayor Vincent Gray’s office has announced that he will help lead celebrations later this week marking the 10th anniversary of the creation of the District’s Department of Transportation.
A statement released by the mayor’s office on Tuesday noted what is today’s department was once a division of the Department of Public Works before its inception as a cabinet-level agency. It said Gray would join in touring department headquarters and meet with staff during Thursday’s celebration.
Department director Terry Bellamy was expected to be on hand along with former directors of the transportation department, members of the D.C. Council and federal transportation officials for the celebration.
The statement says the department in its 10 years has built a record of milestones in improving transportation throughout the nation’s capital.
