Prince George's Co. To Monitor Gun Offenders
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- People convicted of gun crimes in Prince George's County will soon be required to register with police, check in regularly and submit to home visits from officers.
Prince George's County Council members unanimously passed a bill Tuesday authorizing police to operate a gun-offender registry.
County Executive Rushern L. Baker says he plans to sign the bill as soon as possible. The registry would take effect in late July.
An increasing number of local governments in the area and across the country allow police to monitor gun offenders.
The District of Columbia and Baltimore have created such registries in recent years and assigned detectives to visit the
homes of convicted gun offenders.
