Montgomery Co. Housing Worker Charged With Theft

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) -- A Silver Spring woman has been charged with stealing money from elderly residents that was meant to pay for meals through a county nutrition program.

Montgomery County police say Kunthea Lun, 29, admitted taking about $388 from residents of the Forest Oak Towers apartments, an affordable housing complex in Gaithersburg. Lun was charged with theft and fraudulent misappropriation.

Authorities say Lun was responsible for collecting contributions from residents to pay for meals offered through the county under a contract with the Montgomery County Housing Opportunities Commission. Lun worked for the commission.

Police say Lun's supervisors noticed she had not made deposits in April or May. Lun suddenly stopped coming to work on May 21.
